Vecchia Casa Farmhouse in Umbria
Vecchia Casa, in rural Umbria, is located near a wide range of places to visit. Apart from the major towns in both Umbria and Tuscany, you can find locally; theatres, cinemas, museums, cookery classes, music both classical and contemporary. We're located in the centre of the area settled by the Etruscans, therefore there are many important archaeological sites. Umbria is noted for its medieval fortified hilltop towns, most of which are unspoilt by progress. From our village, you can take the most wonderful walks, stopping off in a neighbouring village for a drink, or picnic amongst the olive trees. Within easy reach one can enjoy many other outdoor activities such as golf, swimming, boating, fishing, pot holing, trekking, mountain climbing, biking, horseback riding and more. We are just south of Lago Trasimeno where there is an important bird sanctuary for watching migratory birds. On the other side of the lago, one can visit the famous battle site where Hannibal and his 40,000 men, massacred the Romans in 217 BC.
It's also the perfect place to get away from the Christmas madness as we enjoy it in a more relaxed way, while at Easter one can view the religious processions whose origins go back many hundreds of years. New Years Eve is very special, from the house one can see and hear fireworks in 3 directions. Those who are hearty can watch the displays encircling the lago from the hilltop behind the house. Every season has its festivals mainly celebrating country life, with music, dancing and traditional food. Of course, this is also the perfect place for just relaxing in the garden to soak up the sun, perhaps with a glass of wine and a good book.
